One of the requirements in some regions is that children follow the state curriculum and take an exam at a school each year. A newspaper article steiermark.orf.at/stories/171356/ stated that in Steiermark alone there are a few hundred home educated children. Austria is a country with about 9 million people so there may be a few 1000 children who are home educated.

Information in French: En Belgique, il y a plusieurs niveaux de pouvoir en ce qui concerne l'instruction. Effectivement, notre constitution protège la liberté d'instruction : l'école n'est pas obligatoire ... et l'instruction peut se réaliser où les parents le souhaitent. Les "détails" sont gérés par les 3 communautés linguistiques (les autres niveaux de pouvoir gèrent principalement l'organisation des écoles. J'y reviens tout de suite.) Il n'y a pas vraiment de différences fondamentales entre les trois communautés.
